In the awards autumn series of blog posts, we get to know the brands and people behind the nominee products of the Nordic Natural Beauty Awards 2021. In this post, we are proud to share more about the Finnish brand Ecoil, as told by the founder of the brand – Pia Heikkinen:
“It all started back in 2017 when I was searching for ways to help my son with atopic eczema, as well as our allergic dog with various skin issues. I got contacted by a wonderful person concerning my son’s eczema, and the idea of developing my own products, for both humans and pets, was born as an aftermath of that discussion.
When it was about helping the loved ones near me, I wanted to provide the best possible care for them, and in order to do so, I decided to develop the products myself. Now I’m so happy that I jumped on this path because I see I’ve been able to help so many others as well, by offering relief through my own series – Ecoil.
I have developed the products from one base oil and today, my series includes five different products; oils for hands and nails, face, beard, and body, as well as a care oil for pets. A few newcomers are also under development; lip and hair oil, and body scrub.
From the beginning, I wanted people to feel this new brand was safe and responsible, so Ecoil products have been FI-Natura certified. The products have also received the Finnish label ‘Avainlippu’ which indicates the local Finnish labor and they have been curated on a Finnish ‘Osta vastuullisesti’ (buy responsibly) site. All Ecoil’s products are vegan and preservative-free, and they do not contain any strong scents, dyes, alcohol, nor water. All products are handmade in Lohja, Finland, which is a small town about 50 km from the capital Helsinki.
I am very proud to mention that our “Hand and nail oil” is nominated in the Nordic Natural Beauty Awards 2021. It is the most hydrating and softening oil of our whole series, and despite the name, can be used for the whole body. As the case is with all our oils, the hand and nail oil is very long-lasting. This means that with only a few drops you can hydrate your hands.
The whole current series of products is based on cranberry oil. Similar to other ingredients in the products, it does not clog the skin pores and it absorbs really well giving the skin vitality and brightness. It contains the highest amount of tocotrienols found in any vegetable oil. Omega 3, 6, and 9 essential fatty acids are also unique to this oil. Because cranberry seed oil penetrates the skin easily, it is highly nourishing and moisturizing, leaving a light, non-greasy feeling and is widely used in anti-aging beauty products.
The ‘hand and nail oil’ includes also apricot kernel oil that contains higher levels of total phytosterols, tocopherols, and b-carotene, as well as vitamin A and E. Calendula oil is regenerative and anti-inflammatory, and it is good for treating damaged and chapped skin, making it a perfect ingredient for hand and nail care as well.
To intensify the hydration of any of the Ecoil products, I recommend applying the oils directly after showering and before the skin has had the chance to dry or to use a mist on your skin first.
