In the awards autumn series of blog posts, we get to know the brands and people behind the nominee products of the Nordic Natural Beauty Awards 2021. In this post, we are proud to share more about the Finnish cosmetics brand MALANKA, as told by the founder of the brand, Maareta Ahonen-Bogdanoff:
“MALANKA was born in 2013 out of my enthusiasm for the uniqueness of natural ingredients and love of making by hand. I think well-being is an entity whose basic pillars are sleep, nutrition, and exercise. We can build and strengthen these every day with our small but important choices. Our consumption choices can also affect the well-being of ourselves and our environment. A person is privileged and lucky when they have the opportunity to make choices.
In MALANKA products less is more; each raw material has its own important role to play. The design and manufacturing of the products are guided by both the well-being of the skin and the consideration of the carrying capacity of nature.
I want to create a natural feeling with my products. Skincare must be an experience, a moment that brings good feelings in everyday life. Designing the feel, smell, care, and aesthetics of a product is creative chemistry. As a cosmetics manufacturer, I feel influential and I just want to choose good ingredients.
I love scents and their miraculous power and impact on our minds and memories. The Midsummer oil, which is nominated in the Nordic Natural Beauty Awards 2021, was born out of love for summer nights. Its’ drops condense the active ingredients of the nightless berries, the gentleness of the organic oils, and the fleeting scent of the midsummer rose. I was born during the midsummer and that is why the midsummer rose and its’ scent is especially dear to me, as it brings back wonderful memories of birthdays.
In addition to jojoba and baobab oils, which treat the skin, the award-nominated ‘Midsummer Oil’ contains strawberry seed oil and lingonberry seed oil as active ingredients. Both contain huge amounts of vitamins and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that brighten, nourish, and moisturize dry skin.
Both jojoba and baobab oil are light, well-absorbing organic oils with many skin nourishing and moisturizing properties. After application, the skin surface does not remain oily, but velvety soft and supple. The delightful midsummer rose scent comes from the essential oil of the rose geranium.
We make MALANKA cosmetics by hand in Karkkila, a small Finnish town close to nature, about an hour’s drive from Helsinki. All the products have been created for you who want to choose the best for your skin.
